In order to grant admission to our graduate program, the following conditions must be met:
| The applicant must meet or exceed minimum requirements for admission. | |
| A faculty supervisor must be available and willing to bring the student into a particular project. | |
| The applicant must be admitted by the Department faculty. |
The second condition is, by far, the tightest constraint. In a typical year the Department receives several hundred pre-applications from individuals who meet the minimum requirements for admission. Only a small number of projects are available each year.
The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering has the following minimum requirements for admission to the graduate program:
| 3.0 GPA in undergraduate program (based on A=4.0) | |
| GRE Scores (420 verbal, 500 quantitative) | |
| TOEFL (paper exam. - 550, computerized exam. - 213) - required for non-native speakers of English |
Note: Typical scores for admitted graduate students are well above these minima.
